Instructions for Setting Up the ChatGPT Email Demo Application

1. Install the ACF Plugin

• Unpack the DMG file "JustACFplugin1.7.2.2.dmg"

• Open FileMaker.

• Navigate to Settings > Plugins and click on Reveal Plugins Folder.

• Copy the file ACF-Plugin.fmplugin (from the downloaded DMG archive) into the revealed folder.

• Note: The plugin is notarized by Apple for your security.

  • What the plugin does NOT do: It does not collect or transmit any information about your computer or its usage to any external servers.

• Quit FileMaker and restart it.

• Verify that the plugin is installed correctly by returning to Settings > Plugins.

2. Set Up the Demo Application

• Copy the folder ChatGPT-Email-Demo to your computer. This folder contains:

  • chatgpt-email.fmp12 — the main demo application.

  • TempMDstore — a folder for storing temporary files (e.g., images and Markdown documents).

  • ACF_Source — a folder with three source files used for ACF functions in the demo.

• Open chatgpt-email.fmp12 in FileMaker.

3. Configure the Application Preferences

• Go to the Preferences menu.

• Sender Details: Enter your company's information as needed.

• OpenAI API Key:

  • Click on the OpenAI button and enter your API key for OpenAI.

  • If you don’t have an API key, press the button to create an OpenAI account, generate a key, and paste it into the field.

  • Note: Ensure you have sufficient funds in your OpenAI account to use the API.

4. Set Up Email Accounts

• Click the E-mail Accounts button.

• Enter your SMTP server details:

  • Server Name

  • Account

  • Password

  • Port (usually 587)

  • Shortname (default is "Default", but you can change it if needed).

• Make sure to select your default email account in Preferences.

5. Reconnect ACF Source Files (if modifying scripts)

• Go to the Def section in the application.

• Select Package on the left-hand menu.

• In the Source tab, reselect the path for the source files in the ACF_Source folder.

  • Look at the existing filenames and select the corresponding file using the sheet icon next to the file path field.

6. Set Up Image Resizing

• Install ImageMagick for resizing images.

• Open Terminal and run:

  brew install imagemagick
  

• Follow any additional instructions from Homebrew for successful installation.

7. Install a Markdown Editor

• If you don’t have one, we recommend Typora:

  • Install it from the Mac App Store (approximately $15 USD).

• Set Typora as the default editor for .md files:

  • Create a file with the .md extension in Finder.

  • Right-click the file and choose Get Info.

  • Under Open With, select Typora and click Change All.

• This ensures the Editor button in your application opens Typora.
